CHATS WITH CAT:
I’ve had 2 sessions with Cat so far. They were well good.
So we talked about her work - her style looks like it would suit children’s books so we started there with the initial idea that it would be influenced in some way by that, then we talked about what is important to Cat, eventually the word ‘Joy’ came out as being something Cat values. From Joy we talked about everything joy-related: what does joy look like? what makes you joyful? how do you cultivate joy? is joy the same as happiness? etc… and eventually we had the idea of using fun games to write a story and make an animation.
Our idea is to write a very short story using fun games (like scrabble and stuff) and then animate it. I imagine the stories wont make that much sense, but as long as they work as stories I reckon that’s fine. We’re thinking of getting a kid to narrate it and to use drawing games to come up with some of the illustrations (as well as using some of Cat’s general drawings too). The soundtrack, we thought, could also be made from some form of musical game.
Hopefully the piece, since it’s made from them, will feel playful like a fun game.
One cool thing we looked at stylistically was Hsinping Pan:http://www.hsinpingpan.com/
