THE NEXT STEP
I have felt a bit frustrated at times during this project. And I think I’ve worked out why; I live in a house and have close friends and family all around me, a lot of whom are extremely creative and incredibly talented and yet I’m working alone.
WHATS THAT ABOUT!!!??
So I was having a conversation with my brother danny last week and I got so inspired and got this idea:
To do a collaborative piece that is all about the importance of community and with the simple message of ‘it’s better when we’re together’
Practically, the thoughts I had were to do four pieces, all exactly the same length and make a song/soundtrack that I could split into four sections and distribute between the four pieces so that when they are all played at the same time, the full soundtrack is heard making the point that it’s good when things (people) come together.
I then got to thinking about styles and colours, having the idea that each piece could have it’s own colour and/or style that represented a little piece of a puzzle that would make up the big picture of why community and being together is good. So maybe have one piece that is red, one that is green, one that is blue and finally one that is black. I then got all excited about overlapping them at times, having elements of red in the green piece to make a point and elements of the blue piece the black and so on.
I like it.
I’m thinking I will chose four artists to collaborate with in the musical aspect and the visual aspect of this piece. Hopefully I will be able to use them as the main characters for each piece, existing in the world they created in their own style.
I like the idea of exibiting the piece at the end in exciting ways too… perhaps using four screens (maybe tv screens, maybe projected screens) I’d very much like the individual pieces to exist as little pieces in their own right but to make ultimate sense when they are played simultaneously.
For on-screen purposes I imagine that I will have to edit the pieces together like a film and have that as an alternative way of seeing the films as a combined, singular piece.
I hope thats well explained… I’m very excited.
